10 Stop game variations to keep it fresh

1. Lightning round

A normal round with very little time: 20 or 30 seconds. It forces you to write the first thing that comes to mind, which usually leads to very funny answers.

In tutti.frutti: when creating a room, turn on the Lightning rounds twist and every now and then a 20-second round will come up.

2. Hard letters for double points

Letters like K, Q, X, Y and Z are added to the draw, and when one comes up the round is worth double. It rewards whoever dares to look for unusual answers. Get help in answers for hard letters.

3. Double category

Before each round, one category is chosen to be worth double, at random or by vote. It changes the strategy: you'll want to secure that one first.

In tutti.frutti: the daily challenge, time attack and duels always have a double category; rooms have the Voted double category twist.

4. Surprise categories

Instead of always playing with the same ones, categories are drawn at random every round. Nobody can prepare, and each round feels new.

In tutti.frutti: choose the Random pack when creating a room.

5. Long words

Only answers with five letters or more count. Goodbye "Cat" and "Ann": you have to think a little harder.

In tutti.frutti: it's the rule of Pear World in Adventure and one of the duel modes (Long words).

6. Short words

The opposite: every word can have six letters at most. It sounds easy until you get Historical figure.

In tutti.frutti: Banana World in Adventure.

7. Banned letter

Besides the round's letter, a second letter is chosen that can't appear in any word. If R is banned, "Pear" doesn't count.

In tutti.frutti: in rooms it's the Banned letter twist (a different letter every round); it's also a duel mode and the rule of Cherry World in Adventure.

8. One category at a time

Categories are revealed one by one: to see the next, you have to fill in or skip the current one, with no going back. On paper, one person can read them out.

In tutti.frutti: Strawberry, Kiwi and Blueberry worlds, plus Mango World with a clock for each category.

9. Teams

Play in pairs or groups that share a sheet. Ideal for playing with kids, for big groups or so nobody is left out. Whispering about answers is half the fun.

In tutti.frutti: each team uses one device in a private room.

10. Single theme

Every category revolves around one theme: sports, movies, music, food or a country. Perfect for birthdays, themed parties or the classroom. Find ideas in the Stop game categories.

How to combine them

Variations can be mixed: a lightning round with hard letters, or surprise categories with long words. If it's the group's first time, start with classic Stop and add one variation per game.
