Stop game hard letters: answers for K, Q, X, Y and Z

When the letter Q or X comes up, most sheets stay almost blank. Here are answer ideas for the hardest letters, sorted by category, plus a few tricks so you never freeze.

Why some letters are so hard

Very few English words start with Q, X or Z, and many of the ones that do are technical or borrowed from other languages. That's why many groups leave them out of the draw. In tutti.frutti's online rooms you can turn on the Hard letters twist: when one of them comes up, the round is worth double.

Tricks for any hard letter

  • Think of borrowed words: many words with K, Q or X come from other languages and are used in English as they are.
  • Use place names: cities, rivers and states often rescue categories like City or Country.
  • Proper names help: for Name there is almost always an option, even if it's a celebrity.
  • Agree on the rules first: decide before you start whether brands, nicknames or foreign words count.
  • Start with the safe ones: fill in the easy categories first and come back to the hard ones.
