How to play Stop on a video call

What you need

• A phone, tablet or computer per player, with an internet connection.
• A video call open in any app: Zoom, Google Meet, Discord, WhatsApp, FaceTime or whatever you usually use.
• That's it. There's no account to create and nothing to install: the game runs in the browser.

Each room holds up to six players. If there are more of you, you can run two rooms in parallel or play in pairs, with one person typing for each team.

Step by step

1. Start the video call. It's best to have everyone connected before creating the room, so nobody misses the link.
2. One person creates the room. They open tutti.frutti, type their name, choose Create room and set up the game: categories, time per round (30 to 90 seconds), number of rounds and letters in play.
3. Share the link or the code. The Share button gives you a link that takes people straight into the room: on a phone you can send it directly through WhatsApp, and on a computer it's copied so you can paste it into the video call chat. Anyone who prefers can join with the five-character code from the Join option.
4. Wait for everyone. The room shows the list of connected players. When everyone's in, the person who created it starts the game.
5. Play. A letter is drawn, everyone fills in their categories and the first one to finish taps Stop!. The round ends for everyone at the same time, no matter where they are.
6. Review and argue. After each round there's a review where answers can be challenged. It's the best part of the video call: if you can't agree, the AI judge decides.

Tips for each app

Zoom and Google Meet

If you're playing on a computer, open the game in another tab or window next to the call. If you're playing on a phone, the most comfortable setup is the computer for the video call and the phone for typing, so the keyboard doesn't cover your camera.

Discord

Create a voice channel for the game and paste the room link in the text channel. Since Discord doesn't need video, it works well even on a slow connection.

WhatsApp

WhatsApp group video calls are great for small groups. Share the room link in the group chat before calling, because switching apps during the call is more awkward.

Ideas to make it more fun

• Set up a themed game with movie, music or sports categories. You'll find ideas in Stop game categories.
• Use 30-second rounds for a fast pace, or 90 seconds if you're playing with kids or grandparents.
• If someone doesn't have a device, they can team up with another person and dictate their answers.
• Before starting, agree on whether you'll accept brands, nicknames or words in other languages, to avoid long debates.
